WESTERN WOLFPACK - THE STORY

The Western District’s Rugby Club is the home of the infamous, Western Wolfpack. The Western Wolfpack is a hand-picked team which specialises in rugby 7s and 10s.

The ‘Wolfpack’ was created in the off-season of 2009 by current 1st grade Captain, Aaron McInnes, with a goal of developing skills in 7s to carry across to the 15 man version of the game, while enjoying the odd bus trip and the festivities of competing in such events. Current 2011 Colts Coach, Matthew Sutherland was brought on board as Coach and Wolfpack CEO and has developed a rigorous training schedule in order to compete at some of the most competitive tournaments available to clubs in Australia.

The Wolfpack had a strong initiation into the 7s world, defeating what is now their fiercest rival, Randwick in their first pool match in Kiama 2010. The Wolfpack were eventually knocked out in the cup stages, however managed to bring home the Cup at the Cowra Twilight 10s a few weeks later.

The Wolfpack are current holders of the Buff Plate, Darwin Heineken Hottest 7s Tournament in the World, and also Cup Champions at the Queanbeyan 7s Carnival 2011.

The Woflpack are now famous for producing high quality 7s and 10s, and managing to have an extremely good time at doing it. This was evident at the 2011 Darwin Tournament, where there were 12 players and a boisterous 15 man strong support crew to enjoy the journey.
