Wests Rugby restructure focuses on new wave of talent
Wests Rugby has restructured their rugby program and commenced recruitment for a new Director of Rugby in preparation for the 2019 season.
The Director of Rugby will be responsible for the West Rugby program in its entirety, including developing players and coaches, training plans, recruitment and pathways for our rugby talent.
The restructure sees the highly experienced coach, Craig Robberds, be re-appointed as 1st Grade Head Coach with key responsibility for providing technical and tactical coaching to individual players and the 1st Grade team as a whole.
“One of our key goals is to enhance the rugby program in its entirety moving forward, and we believe recruiting an experienced Director of Rugby is critical to a successful future. Our intention with the Director of Rugby position is to bring in new ideas, develop talent and implement a coordinated coaching program throughout all sections of the club,” Wests President Angus McKerchar said.
“The Director of Rugby working with one of the most experienced coaches and rugby brains in Australia, Robbo (Craig Robberds), will put the whole club on the path to future success moving forward,” McKerchar continued.
The Committee and key players have already commenced building a three-year strategic rugby plan as the club prepares for a new era of youth and rugby talent at the Feeding Grounds.
“Wests Juniors have got some really strong teams coming through and the Director of Rugby will be shaping the club’s evolution, so the new wave of Lions’ can write their own history,” McKerchar said.
Applications are now open and close 21st September. The new role is expected to be announced in October.
