Harry Lloyd earns Brumbies call up
Wests First Grade Captain, Harrison (Harry) Lloyd has been named on the Brumbies bench in their opening trial match against the Melbourne Rebels this Saturday, 3rd February.
The Wests Rugby production line continues to showcase the transition of high quality rugby players taking steps into the professional system. The 23-year-old loose head prop has recently spent the off-season with the Brumbies and his hard work has paid off, earning this rewarding opportunity.
“I’m very excited with the prospect of the match, the Brumbies off-season has been significant for my development and for it to culminate into this weekend, is great. There’s still plenty of work I can do, but if I get on the field, I want to soak up the experience,” Harry said.
Following on from a stellar season leading the mighty Lions to a grand final appearance in 2017, Harry’s representative duties have sky rocketed in the last twelve months. Lloyd was a regular starter in the Canberra Vikings NRC team, including making light work of the Tongan Thor in the NRC Grand Final, before spending the off-season with the Brumbies.
First Grade Forwards Coach, Luke “Beef” Roberts praised the Wests skipper, “Harry deserves this opportunity. He is one of the most revered leaders in the local competition, an outstanding contributor on the field and Wests are very proud to have him as a Lion.”
Harry Lloyd will join a growing list of high quality players to make the transition from Jamison Oval to exposure at the professional ranks. Recent players from Wests who have walked this path, include Jesse Mogg (Brumbies, Wallabies), Pama Fou (Australian 7s, Melbourne Rebels), Peter Kimlin (Brumbies, Wallabies), Brodie Leber (Australians 7s), and Michael Smith (Brumbies (trial), Shute Shield winner with Norths Rugby Sydney).
