Koby Snowden

ripping into Lion Life in 2018

Colts Half back Koby Snowden on the loose.

No one should have an excuse for missing training after hearing the journey new Colt, Koby Snowden took to the Lions' Den for the 2018 season.  Back in April, the young half back began an arduous 5,000km journey to the Capital, beginning with a challenging  first leg  by road  from Nhulunbuy on the Gove Peninsula in the Northern Territory, just to  join his new rugby club in the heart of the Belconnen district, Canberra.

Accompanied by his brother, Koby commenced the 1,042 kilometre journey in car to Darwin, which included avoiding crossing cyclone ravaged rivers, guarded by giant crocodiles looking for an easy meal.

When their car broke down in a remote part of the Territory, Koby had to set off on foot for the 15-kilometre trek to access some phone reception, whilst his brother stayed with the broken down vehicle. After finally making the call for an SOS to the distant Katherine township, with his rifle firmly in hand, for four hours Koby sat perched high and dry in a tree in the middle of the bush until help arrived.

Koby’s trip to Darwin certainly wasn’t smooth, however his transition into the club has been seamless. Koby has epitomised the club spirit in his short tenure to date, playing across multiple grades and conducting himself with distinction including manning the club barbeque, all in one day.

“The club is great and it's like a second family for me. It's the whole reason I'm even in Canberra and I'm settling in great. All the boys have treated me like I've always played here,” Snowden said.

Snowden has been employed via Wests sponsors and recruitment specialists, Employ Me (https://employ-me.com.au/) and will will be the starting halfback for Colts this weekend. Wests take on Royals at Phillip Enclosed, with games kicking off from 10:50am.

All five grades will be taking on the Blue Baggers in what is shaping up to be a great day of rugby. Wests 1st Grade welcome back Brumby backrower, Rob Valetini in an intriguing battle between last year's undefeated Premiers and a Wests outfit thirsty for victory.
