Junior Luteru appointed Director of Rugby for 2019

Wests Rugby are very proud to announce Junior Luteru as the Director of Rugby for 2019.

Luteru, amounted over 50 First Grade caps as a Wests Lion since joining the club in 2012. Known as a hard hitting and running outside back, Luteru's playing pedigree has allowed for a smooth transition into the coaching ranks at the club. Prior to his time playing at Jamison Headquarters, Luteru graduated from the prestigious Wesley College, had stints in the NPC, and a year in the United Kingdom at Huddersfield giving him a wide array of experiences to succeed in the new role.

"As the new Director, I am really looking forward to driving our rugby program forward. I have grown up with Rugby Union all my life and it has taught me discipline, team work, comradery, hard work, mental toughness and perseverance."

"Following on from my playing career, I have developed a passion in seeing teams and individuals grow and succeed by achieving their goals, and I can't wait to get started on what is going to be a great year for the Lions," Luteru said.

Luteru has been at the helm of the Wests Sevens & 10s squads in the past 18 months, including a recent tour to the Malaysian Cobra 10s where the squad come third in the Cup Finals. A significant achievement for a team competing against many international seasoned professionals.

"Junior's got a drive and passion for the game not many have. He is an experienced player, with a wealth of knowledge. His role will see him really take a skills based coaching program and develop our next wave of talent up the ranks," Club President, Angus McKerchar said.

2019 is shaping up to be a big season with an upcoming tour of Tonga in January and pre-season training commencing on 20 November.
